Hyaluromimethic SHLS Monochrome

What is Sodium Hyaluronate Lipoate Silver and what are its benefits?

Sodium Hyaluronate Lipoate Silver is another fully biocompatible biomaterial based on BMG’s Hyaluromimethic Technology, which can be explained as biomaterials derived from modified sodium hyaluronate. Exponential improvements over the sodium hyaluronate (hyaluronic acid) molecule have been witnessed through the creation of SHLS. Furthermore, this post aims to explain the benefits and applications of the new biomaterial (SHLS).

Lipoate is the conjugate base of lipoic acid and the most prevalent form of lipoic acid under physiologic conditions. Lipoate has a strong affinity with heavy metals (Cd, Hg, Pb) which is useful in case of liver intoxication. Moreover, it is a cofactor in the restoring of other biologically active molecules such as glutathione and ascorbic acid and its powerful radical scavenger activity prevents lipids peroxidation. However, it falls short in being soluble in the water and stable in chemical reactions which results in forming undesired side products.

By adding lipoate to the sodium hyaluronate (hyaluronic acid) structure, it gives the SH molecule a unique radical scavenger feature. In addition, the newly formed biomaterial (SHL) exhibits high viscosity, enhanced film-forming properties and improved resistance to enzymatic degradation. The addition of silver ions to the sodium hyaluronate lipoate structure and creation of sodium hyaluronate lipoate silver complex (SHLS) exerts activity against Gram-Positive and Gram-Negative bacteria.

SHLS with its outstanding features is suitable for the development of topical products in dermatology, ophthalmology, and periodontology. To showcase the features of this new biomaterial, BMG Pharma has developed a new product, Lipohyal Wound Care Solution, using the sodium hyaluronate lipoate silver complex (SHLS) as its functional ingredient.

Lipohyal Wound Care Solution is a clinically approved product that is indicated for topical treatment of dermal lesions, acute and chronic wounds such as diabetic foot, decubitus, lower limb, and vascular ulcers. This product not only helps accelerate the healing process but unlike any existing product in this category, can claim to have a soothing effect (lenitive). Moreover, its effectiveness, biocompatibility, high patient compliance, and high efficacy rate make it a great solution for wound care.
Sodium hyaluronate lipoate silver complex (SHLS) with its unique viscoelastic, antioxidant, and antimicrobial properties is suitable for a broad range of applications where a barrier effect against bacteria and reduction of biofilm growth without affecting the cells is needed.
